Faith What really happens when you fail to try? We hear people talk about "opportunities are never lost; someone will always take them," or we here folks say "well, there's always next time." Some people are scared of missing out, while there are other people who could care less about what comes and goes. But in the fabric of our being is the desire to do something special with our time and talent--something that truly matters. Matters to who? PEOPLE. Because relationships are at the center of all that we do. We were made for community. That said, don't allow our consumer culture to fool you... The issue with not trying is not in failing to get what you want (possessions). It's deeper than that; it's in never knowing who you may have impacted (people). I was reminded of this by a Facebook message that was sent to me months ago from an elementary school student. Her kind words reinforced for me that if I had failed to try (leaving public education to build a network marketing business from home, and then launch a public speaking career) I would've failed to see who I may have been used to impact. How awesome is it to see a young person being bold by reaching out, sharing excitement and expressing gratitude? I had a blast that day; I made several hundred new little friends. The cool part about the whole impact thing is that it often happens in subtle, under the surface ways--ways you wouldn't even expect. I don't think that's by accident either. I believe it's God's way of showing us that He's behind the scenes doing the heavy lifting, softening hearts, while using us to pour hope into the lives of others. It's His way of keeping us humble, so we don't try to take all the credit. Contrary to what you may think, there are days where I have to push past fear or frustration, battle against passivity or pride, and work to overcome doubt or various self-limiting thoughts. Can you relate? Understanding what happens though when we fail to try is what keeps me marching on. I'm motivated by it. This helps me remember that we have a responsibility to make a positive impact in our generation. I hope this serves as encouragement for you to continuing giving away the the gift you've been given. You will have setbacks... You will have shortcomings... But don't allow failing to try to be the reason you shortchange others. Your impact could be far greater than you know! Love you guys.
